John Wayne was a film star hero of mine when I was a kid, and it was only after watching Trumbo did I realise what type of a man he acually was. It was a big disappointment, I have to say. Though the punch up in the Quiet Man is probably still the best ever in the history of cinema.
I also learned in that film (very good it is too) that it was Kirk Douglas that stood up to the Witch Hunters and insisted that Trumbo got credited for his script he wrote (Spartacus). That was very brave of Douglas as it could have ended up in himself being blacklisted. But very soon after, other powerful directors followed suit, and credited their own 'blacklisted' writers.
